Is there a minimum/maximum word count?Minimum is a drabble (100 words). No maximum.
Is there a time limit?Nope! Take as long as you want. Although you should try and set deadlines for yourself just incase you forget to write anything.
Can I use fic I've already written to fill the challenges?Yeah, but the general idea is to write
more fic, so no more than
five of the stories may be previously-written fic which just happens to meet the requirements.
What/who can I claim?1. You can claim physical places (Xavier Mansion, Issac's Apartment, Sunnydale, Neptune High School, Hogwarts, etc.) and talk about characters from different fandoms being there.
2. You can claim a general fandom -- say
Dead Like Me -- and proceed to cross all the different characters over with various other fandoms.
3. You could claim one character from a fandom -- for example Scott Summers -- and write crossovers with him.
4. You can claim a single crossover pairing -- for example Chloe Sullivan/Scott Summers -- and just proceed to become the single most prolific writer of Chloe/Scott out there (BTW, I'll love you forever if you ever write them together!). The "pairing" can be platonic or romantic - up to you!
5. You can claim
multi-fandom, where you can can write WHATEVER crossovers you want to focus on. You can always switch to this if you lost interest in your original claim.
How many people can claim the same claim? For right now, its unlimited... and there is no waiting list.
How many claims can I make?As of July 2013: You are now able to claim however many claims you want, just remember that you do need to eventually complete them. You can always update them later if inspiration is lost.If I claim a pairing/character, does everything have to focus on that pairing/character?Well, no, but that's kind of the general idea behind claiming them, so the character, or both the characters in the pairing, should at least appear, even if they're not the focus of the story.
If someone has claimed Series 1 already, can I still claim Character 6 from Series 1?Absolutely!
If I grab Character 1 from Fandom 5, and someone else grabs Character 2 from Fandom 10, would I be allowed to write Character 1/Character 2?Absolutely. If I claimed Peter Petrelli, and someone else claimed Scott Summers, each of us would still be free to write a Peter/Scott.
What about characters who inhabit the same universe, but different series (eg Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel)? As long as they've never met, the claim is acceptable. For example -- Illyria and... Xander. Willow/Fred wouldn't be accepted because they have met before. Although if its an AU!Willow/Fred with some kind of crossover element, its accepted.
Do I have to write Fandom 1 being crossed over with fifty different fandoms?Nope! You can write however many different or the same fandoms crossovers with Fandom 1. Whatever is easiest and most fun for you to write!
What about Real People Fiction (RPF)? Original Characters?Sorry but no you can't claim real people (bands, actors, writers, etc.) or original characters. RPF is not acceptable here. OCs are allowed to appear in the fanworks.
What about AUs?Well, AUs are allowed, but there must be a crossover element -- whether it's Buffy Summers at Xavier Mansion or the Harry Potter characters mermaids under the ocean with the Little Mermaid characters. ;D
When my fic is written, how should I share it?Post it here, post it to your journal and link to it here, post all the stories in your journal or AO3 and when they're all done, post a list of links here... really, we're not picky.
I have a question that's not answered here.Drop me a comment here, and I'll be happy to help you!
I'm in the process of writing a long crossover and I'd love to make a challenge out of it. The only problem is I've already written the first arc which is 10 chapters. I only just found out about this comm and was planning on using these prompts to help me with the events of the other arcs. Is it okay to start a claim in the middle of a pre-existing story?yes! just on the table you can only link to the chapters that focus on the prompts.
